Havana, Cuba

Havana is one of my favourite cities in the world. It’s up there with Tokyo, Paris, Amsterdam and New York, but it is completely unlike all of those cities. Because of the ongoing US embargo and Cuba's socio-economic system, rampant capitalism and ubiquitous advertising have never really made it to Cuba –– not since the revolution, at least. The result is a colonial city on a tropical island that is both falling apart and yet strangely and beautifully preserved. Add to this the fact that Havana is bathed in sunshine, rum, and music –– so much music! –– and you can see why it is such an amazing city. One day, when I grow up, I plan to winter there.
